Our Story

Five Decades of Aerial Survey Excellence, Now Strengthened by ISGroup

Established in 1979, Photomapping is Australia’s longest-operating fully Australian-owned aerial survey company. Widely recognised as a pioneer in airborne mapping, Photomapping has delivered precision geospatial data to a broad range of clients, including government agencies, infrastructure operators, environmental managers, and resource companies for over four decades.

In 2024, Photomapping integrated into the ISGroup, expanding national operations and aerial capture capacity through additional helicopter platforms. While growing our operational footprint, we have maintained our specialised focus on large-scale aerial data acquisition and processing.

Operating across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, Photomapping provides aerial data capture and processing using advanced airborne imaging and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technologies. Our operations combine both high- and low-altitude capture using fixed wing and rotary aircraft, allowing us to tailor flight profiles to project requirements. This flexibility enables us to efficiently survey the region’s diverse environments, including remote regions, challenging terrain, and complex urban areas.

Integrated Spatial Capability through ISGroup

As part of ISGroup, Photomapping operates alongside Land Surveys, IntelliSpatial and Utility Mapping, leveraging complementary expertise and shared operational strength to deliver integrated spatial solutions to multiple sectors and industries. Our comprehensive spatial capabilities support you at every stage of your project or asset lifecycle.

Why Aerial Surveys?

Manned aerial surveys offer a safe, efficient, and highly accurate solution for capturing large areas and complex sites. Compared to drone operations, aerial surveys provide:

Faster coverage of extensive areas in a single mobilisation.
Higher resolution sensors that exceed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) payload capacities.
Minimal ground access, reducing safety risks and site disruption.
Fewer airspace limitations, enabling capture in urban and populated area.
Superior positional accuracy with advanced navigation and control systems.

For large-scale projects, linear infrastructure, remote regions, and sensitive environments, manned aerial surveys remain the most effective way to acquire high-quality geospatial data while keeping personnel safely out of hazardous or restricted areas.
